How to Develop a Product for Your Internet Business

So you've done the first step and you've written a mission statement (i.e., why you want to spend the time effort and money to do this Internet business marketing) and you've written an action plan (i.e., how you are going to spend the next 30 to 180 days step by step accomplishing your desired results). Now the task ahead of you is what are you going to sell? A digital info product is a good choice because it's one of the easiest things to create, stock and sell. They're cheap to create and take up zero inventory space. Once they are created they last forever. You can ship them without any cost and do it immediately so the buyer gets instant gratification from their purchase.

Think about developing a breakout model that lets your niche know you are a Subject Matter Expert. Step back and get a new perspective on your industry. Look at the way things have always been done and ask, "How can I see and do it differently? What are the blocks to progress? What are the barriers to progress? What features do people want that are not yet available? How has the product been used that is not 'as labeled'? What are the core aspects of the business and how can you reclassify them to consider new inclusions or boundaries for your benefit?

Decrease it, Increase it, Remove it, and Build it:

Fresh ideas can come from anywhere. New service ideas that are relevant are constantly changing with technology and buying patterns. 'Fringe' is in. 'Custom' is required. The market place is global. Remember that you have internal departments even if you work alone. You have the Internet, your store, your product creation department, your company, and your employees (even if you only outsource).

Customers are available by new methods, online communities constantly change. Listen to the customer purchase patterns. Distribution channels go digital in new ways, iPad, Mobile downloads, apps, etc. External Development partners (outsourcing) are now available globally further breaking down boundaries and giving greater access to intellectual capacity, scheduling flexibility, and innovation access.

Decrease the factors that your niche sees as 'standard'. Replace old assumptions with new ideas.

Increase the factors that your industry could benefit from including. How would user satisfaction increase if new features were included that were preferred by the end user? How could Development change if new features, material, processes, services, were added?

Remove and eliminate barriers to entry. What is complex? What is marginal? What is old and out dated? What new tech feature has not yet been available? What is a possible profit driver that has not been considered?

Build something new. Is a new idea or model possible? Is a new niche category possible? Is a new service available? Is there an improved process that innovation has created or should create? Have buying patterns changed?

Can you create a better customer or vendor experience? Can you improve the process of delivery, purchase, manufacturing, distribution, use, maintenance, disposal, or customer experience?
