The iSlate Apple Tablet - What is It?

The iSlate apple tablet is a new rumored electronic mobile computer produced by Apple Inc. For years there has been a rumor floating around that Apple has had a tablet device in the works. Recent events and technology detective work indicates that Apple's new product is finally here!

What's a "tablet" anyway?

Iphone Application

A computer tablet is a portable mobile computer that is similar to a laptop computer, but instead of a folding screen designed to rest on a persons lap a tablet is designed to be hand held with a touch screen. Tablet technology is nothing new to the tech world, but in the past tablets have generally been bulky and lacking a user friendly interface. Tablets are especially useful to industries and business that need to access information on the go, such as architects, doctors, sales people, traveling business people, news reporters, maintenance people, factory managers, and many more.

The iSlate, an Apple invention?

Even though rumors about the Apple tablet have been around for a long time Evidence indicates that it will be announced in January 2010 and that it will go on sale March 2010. Various leaked information, industrial activities, and corporate actions show that the iSlate is going to be:

• 7", 10", or 11"

• Enclosed in an aluminum body

• Making use of multi-touch technology from Finger-works

• Similar to e-readers like the Kindle

• Able to support iPhone Applications

• Priced between 0-00

• 3G compatible

• Packaged with a touch version of iWork

• Powered by an ARM CPU

• Using a front facing webcam in future releases

• Groundbreaking

While this is based on unofficial sources at this time, this article will be updated with the official iSlate specs as time goes on.

iSlate market positioning?

The iSlate tablet will be competing directly against the HP "Slate" tablet which was announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The iSlate tablet trademark.

Everyone has come to the conclusion that the Apple tablet will indeed be called the iSlate due to Apple's purchase of the domain name islate.com and trademark ownership of the iSlate name by a company called Slate Computing which lists one of Apple's trademark specialists on it's board of directors.

What can the iSlate do?

The iSlate will revolutionize mobile gaming. With it being compatible with the popular Applications that run on the iPhone the iSlate will be a more functional version of the iPhone due to it's increased size and computing power. Eventually, the iSlate will be the new form of face to face communication when it is released with a webcam. It's also likely that the iSlate will be able to sync with computers and even act as an interface for computers replacing the keyboard and mouse. You should ask yourself what the iSlate can't do...

Of course more details and corrections will be added as time goes on.
