How to Position Yourself As an iPhone App Developer

When you look at the iPhone apps on the App Store, you will notice a number of different market opportunities. We will look at price structure, market function, quality level, niche market vs mass and whether or not the app is a part of an existing flood of the same apps or is unique and different. One way to look at the market is by looking at what prices other developers are offering.

Free Apps

Create An Iphone App

There are various explanations as to why an app is given away for free. The developer could possibly be utilizing a free iPhone app as a demo type of a fee based app the developer wishes to connect potential clients on before needing them to purchase the app. Most apps are created so that customers have the support from their banking institution, social network, online gaming platform, medical device or publication. There are apps that are free for customers, but businesses will be required to purchase an extended version of the app. Another reason why free apps exist is because the developer is generating a large subscriber base so that in the future, those who downloaded the free app will convert into paid subscribers.

Market Function

Another way to break the iPhone app market is by looking at what the app is created for. Does the app fulfill an existing need, make room for better improvements of an existing app, does it create new demand or trend that was overlooked that supports different elements of business or was it just simply created for bragging rights or enjoyment purposes.

Quality Level

Many of the apps on the app store look very good in professional design but do not function they way they are suppose to. There are a lot of iPhone apps that were created or developed for the iPhone by major companies that function sluggishly. There is a thin line the way a premium app functions and the way a professional looking app functions. There are iPhone apps such as games that do not have the best graphics but can be very fun, exciting and addicting to play.

Niche Market vs Mass

There are certain apps that are created for a niche markets and there are apps that are created for the masses. The common mistake that most developers fail to understand is by creating a niche app for a certain niche does not necessarily mean that they will have a limited potential. Targeting a specific niche is the absolute best way to attract and engage new customers and be perceived as relevant and an expert in that niche. Perfect examples of apps in the app store that cater to a specific niche are the apps in the medical field.

Many apps that exist today on the iPhone were huge products somewhere else. More people are buying the iPhone because more and more people are using the phone for more than just receiving calls, but using the phone as a tool. Companies are noticing this trend and are branding and marking their products via the iPhone to extend and keep their Applications on the iPhone platform.
