With the recent release of the iPhone 4 and details of Apple's iAds advertising platform, marketing companies have to rethink everything they know about advertising placement. Mobile marketing has been making a small, but growing, impact on the marketing world, but has not exploded, due to a number of inherent problems, including the small size of the advertising medium (ie. mobile device screen) and a natural dislike of advertisements on personal mobile devices. Apple is poised to make a huge impact with their new service iAds: an advertisement network and platform which is specifically built and styled to engage people using the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
Apple announced during the iPhone 4 keynote presentation that iAds will debut on July 1st and already has over million in marketing commitments from top global brands such as AT&T, Best Buy, Campbell Soup Company, Chanel, Citi, DirecTV, GEICO, GE, JCPenney, Liberty Mutual Group, Nissan, Sears, Target, Turner Broadcasting System, Unilever and The Walt Disney Studios. The million already committed to the iAds platform represents roughly 50% of the total global mobile advertising revenue projected for the second half of 2010, according to a study by a top marketing agency.

To date, mobile advertising consist of simple banner advertisements, that when clicked, completely remove the user from the content that they were originally engaged with. The premise behind the iAds platform is to create the emotion of a television advertisement and the interactivity of a web Application. iAds are merged seamlessly within apps on Apple's mobile devices, allowing users to explore the marketing pitch without having to completely disengage with the Application. An executive at a top marketing firm is quoted saying, "iAds will revolutionize how consumers interact with companies and invoke an emotional bond between the two."
The state of the current world economy magnifies the need for companies to increase their brand awareness and SEO strategies. iAds, as well as other marketing formats and techniques, are more important than ever. Like a good SEO strategy, iAds will get your brand ranking above the competition and exposed to millions of potential customers.
