Firefighter Application Psychological Tests.
As a part of your UK Firefighter Application you will undergo the National Firefighter Psychological Tests and complete the National Firefighter Questionnaire. There are three tests to complete in a given time and to be successful in your firefighter application psychological tests you must pass all three tests.

Application Development
Fire Fighter Application Psychological Test 1. Working with numbers.
This test is designed to assess your ability to work with the type of numerical data a firefighter might experience in day to day work. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are all tested along with estimation of numerical data. The test comprises of six scenarios each has a number of questions within 32 question in total.
Fire Fighter Application Psychological Test 2. Understanding information.
This test is designed to assess you reading ability and also your understanding of what you have read. The reading material will be of a type you will experience as a firefighter in your day to day work. You will be tested in six scenarios and be expected to retrieve the relevant information from the reading materials. There is a total of 25 questions in all. Reading materials may include training course notes, memos, fire safety information, and newsletters.
Fire Fighter Application Psychological Test 3. Situational awareness and problem solving.
This test is designed to assess your ability to look after you own safety and that of others who are around you. It also assesses your ability to solve problems with information provided. You will read scenarios you are likely to face in your day to day work as a fire fighter before choosing one of four available answers that would reflect what you would do in the given situation. 30 questions in all asking you to choose the answer that most reflects what you would do. You do not need any knowledge of operational procedures to complete the test just a common sense approach to safety of yourself and others around you.
You will also have to complete the National Firefighter Questionnaire as a part of the Firefighter Application Psychological testing phases.
National Firefighter Questionnaire.
The National Firefighter Questionnaire is an assessment of your motivations and attitudes around seven scales based on the Personal Qualities and Attributes of the role of Fire Fighter (PQA's). This is a National standard of assessment.
The National Firefighter questionnaire assessment itself consists of 127 questions designed to look at certain areas of the seven scales. Each question looks at a specific area of one of the scales. The areas are :-
Working with Others - you can work effectively with others either within the FRS (Fire & Rescue Service) or within the community.
Commitment to Diversity and Integrity - you understand and respect diversity and you can adopt a fair and ethical approach towards other people.
Confidence and Resilience - you can maintain a confident and resilient attitude in highly challenging and difficult situations.
Commitment to Excellence -you can adopt a conscientious and proactive approach to your work thus achieving and maintaining excellent standards.
Commitment to Development - you are committed to self Development and you are committed to developing others.
Situational Awareness - you maintain an active awareness of the environment to promote safe and effective working.
Openness to Change - you are open to change and you actively seek to support it within the FRS and within the community.
